SAD NEWS: SETBACK!!! The Angels Suffer Another Mind-Blowing Injury-Not Again

The Los Angeles Angels placed rookie second baseman on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a left thumb sprain.

To fill the roster spot, the team selected the contract of shortstop Chad Stevens from Triple-A Salt Lake. Stevens made his major league debut Thursday against the Braves, starting at second base and batting ninth.

Moore, 22, sustained the injury while diving for a ground ball hit by Ozzie Albies during Wednesday’s 8-3 loss in Atlanta. He exited in the sixth inning and was replaced by Kevin Newman.

“Anytime you see someone like (Moore) get hurt, you fear the worst,” said interim manager Ray Montgomery. He added that a two-week absence might be “the best-case scenario.”

Moore, the Angels’ first-round pick (eighth overall) in the 2024 MLB Draft, debuted on June 13 and is hitting .189 with three home runs and eight RBIs across 18 games.

Stevens, 26, earned his call-up after batting .307 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs in 72 games for Salt Lake.

In a separate move, the Angels released veteran reliever Hector Neris. The 36-year-old posted a 5.14 ERA with 19 strikeouts and seven walks in 21 appearances for Los Angeles this season. He also briefly pitched for Atlanta, allowing five earned runs in just one inning. Across both stints, Neris finished with a combined 7.80 ERA in 15 innings in 2025.
