Promising North Queensland Cowboys talent Tom Duffy is reportedly set to join NRL rivals Brisbane Broncos ahead of the 2026 season. The 22-year-old, who celebrated his birthday earlier this week, has impressed throughout his development, having represented Queensland at under-19 level and earned selection for the Australian Schoolboys team.
Earlier this year, a loan to Super League was even mooted: with the starlet off-contract at the end of the year and wanting to play his way into a new deal either with the Cowboys or elsewhere.
NRL Half-Back Opts Against Super League Move, Chooses Broncos for 2026
Despite being previously linked with a switch to Super League, that move never materialized. However, fresh reports from Australia now confirm that Tom Duffy will join the Brisbane Broncos ahead of the 2026 season.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Duffy is set to play a back-up role to veteran half-back Adam Reynolds but is aiming to eventually take over as the long-term successor. Interestingly, Reynolds had reportedly considered a move to Super League himself in 2026, with Hull KR tipped as a potential destination. However, the 35-year-old appears likely to stay in Australia, with the Broncos having offered him a new contract that he is expected to sign.
For Duffy to secure the long-term No. 7 jersey, he’ll need to outperform rising Broncos talent Coby Black. The 22-year-old has impressed significantly in the junior ranks, earning Queensland Cup Half-Back of the Year honours in 2024. During that standout season with Northern Pride, Black delivered 33 try assists and topped the league’s scoring charts.
