imon Jordan urges Tyson Fury to rescue Morecambe FC with £170m fortune
Former Crystal Palace chairman and outspoken broadcaster Simon Jordan has publicly challenged boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to step in and save Morecambe FC, which currently faces collapse amid a financial meltdown .
Morecambe—once a League One side—is now beset by crisis. The National League suspended the club’s membership effective immediately after they failed to meet financial obligations, prompting postponements of their first three league fixtures (against Boston United, Brackley Town, and Scunthorpe) and removal from the 2025/26 National League Cup . The club remains under a transfer embargo, and all eyes now turn to a pivotal meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 20 August, when the National League will decide whether Morecambe can retain its membership .
Jordan argues that Fury, a lifelong resident of Morecambe whose net worth has ballooned from around £82 million to an estimated £162 million recently—and perhaps over £200 million after his latest bout with Oleksandr Usyk—is the town’s best hope . Fury owns assets at the town’s stadium—including the training facilities and the Tyson Fury Foundation gym within the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, which he previously used to sponsor the club’s kit .
Jordan recalled a conversation with Fury in 2022, during which Fury expressed genuine interest in acquiring the club and asked for guidance on how to run a football operation. However, no formal bid materialized, and in the time since Morecambe has slumped deeper into trouble with two successive relegations and a near‑empty squad .
Jordan was blunt: “Tyson Fury doesn’t even pay his debts to Piers Morgan when he bets a million quid… I doubt he’s going to put his hand in his pocket and buy a football club. Let’s call him out.”
