REPORT ON: West Ham submit £9.5m John Victor bid as Bournemouth become key players in deal.

West Ham United have reportedly tabled a £9.5 million bid for Brazilian forward John Victor as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season — but they now face unexpected competition from AFC Bournemouth, who have emerged as a major factor in whether a deal can be struck.

John Victor, 24, impressed last season for Corinthians, where his explosive pace, technical ability and eye for goal attracted interest from across Europe. West Ham have been monitoring the Sao Paulo-born striker for several months as part of Tim Steidten’s broader recruitment drive. Their opening offer of £9.5 million is understood to be structured with achievable add-ons, giving Corinthians a tempting package, although sources in Brazil suggest the club originally valued the player at closer to £12-14 million.

Bournemouth’s involvement centres around their strong relationship with Corinthians and an existing first-option agreement relating to South American talent, signed when the clubs collaborated over previous transfer discussions. While West Ham are keen to move swiftly, Bournemouth’s ability to match or better the London club’s offer – or potentially step aside in exchange for favoured terms in future deals – gives them significant leverage.

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is believed to be pushing hard for forward reinforcements, having lost Michail Antonio to long-term injury and sanctioned the departure of Danny Ings. John Victor is seen as a player who can press aggressively from the front and provide versatility across the forward line. Internal discussions at the London Stadium have highlighted the need for pace and movement to complement Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, both of whom hit double figures for goals last season.

However, Bournemouth’s recruitment team, led by technical director Richard Hughes, rate John Victor highly and see him as a potential long-term successor to Dominic Solanke. Their interest could complicate West Ham’s pursuit, especially if Corinthians opt to trigger a competitive auction.

Talks between all parties are expected to continue over the coming days, with West Ham hopeful a revised bid quickly close to the £11 million mark will be enough to secure the forward’s signature. The Hammers’ hierarchy remain confident, though the influence of Bournemouth means they may need to act decisively to avoid being gazumped.

With the Premier League season fast approaching, and Lopetegui determined not to be left short in attack, West Ham’s push for John Victor looks set to be one of the window’s most intriguing transfer tussles.
