Captain Agony: Hero! Eels Star Mitchell Moses Reveals tough “decisions” after Missing the Birth of His “Child” to Play Crucial Role in Preliminary “Final” It was the hardest call I’ve ever had to make,” Moses admitted. As he poured out tears of “Joy”..See details..
Parramatta Eels halfback Mitchell Moses has opened up about one of the most difficult decisions of his career — choosing to play in last night’s crucial preliminary final clash instead of being by his partner’s side for the birth of their child.
In an emotional post-match interview, Moses revealed that his fiancée went into labour just hours before kickoff. Despite the life-changing moment awaiting him, the 29-year-old playmaker decided to take the field, knowing the stakes for the Eels were enormous.
> “It was the hardest call I’ve ever had to make,” Moses admitted. “My partner was unbelievable in telling me to go out there and do my job. She knew how much this game meant to me and the team.”
The Eels went on to claim a thrilling victory, booking their place in the NRL Grand Final for the first time in years. Moses played a starring role, guiding the team with his kicking game, setting up two tries, and holding his nerve under intense pressure.
Balancing Family and Finals Footy
Moses explained that the decision was made after heartfelt discussions with his partner and family. While he desperately wanted to be there for the birth, the opportunity to help his team reach the grand final — something the Eels haven’t achieved in decades — was too significant to pass up.
> “She told me, ‘You’ve worked your whole life for this.’ That gave me the strength to focus on the game, but it wasn’t easy,” Moses said, visibly emotional. “As soon as the final whistle went, my mind went straight to getting back to her and the baby.”
According to Eels officials, Moses left the stadium immediately after full-time and was on his way to the hospital to meet his newborn.
Teammates and Fans Rally Around Him
Eels captain Clint Gutherson praised Moses for his commitment and professionalism, acknowledging the sacrifice involved.
> “Mitch put the team first, and that says everything about his character,” Gutherson said. “We’re all so happy for him and his family — it’s been a massive 24 hours for him.”
Fans have also flooded social media with messages of admiration and support, applauding Moses for both his on-field heroics and his dedication to his family.
A Grand Final to Remember
With the Eels now just one win away from breaking their premiership drought, Moses will enter the grand final week juggling two of life’s biggest milestones — fatherhood and the chance to lift the NRL trophy.
> “It’s a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Moses smiled. “My daughter [or son] will be my biggest motivation going into next week. This is for her.”
Parramatta fans will be hoping the emotional high fuels another masterclass from their star No. 7, as he aims to deliver a premiership and dedicate it to his brand-new family.
