
Crystal Palace have been thrown into a storm of uncertainty just ten days before the transfer window closes, as manager Oliver Glasner and chairman Steve Parish have issued directly conflicting statements regarding the future of star defender Marc Guehi amid strong interest from Liverpool.
Reports emerged this week that Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of the England international, viewing him as a key addition to strengthen their defensive ranks ahead of a challenging season. With Virgil van Dijk entering the latter stages of his career and Ibrahima Konaté struggling with fitness concerns, Guehi has become a prime target for the Merseyside giants. However, Palace’s internal messaging could not be more mixed.
Speaking after Palace’s recent match, Glasner was emphatic in his stance: “Marc is absolutely not for sale. He is central to our project and a big part of our plans moving forward. We’re building around him, not selling him.” The Austrian manager’s tone suggested zero intention of letting his defensive lynchpin leave, especially so late in the window when replacing him would be near impossible.
Yet, only hours later, chairman Steve Parish struck an entirely different chord during an interview with a leading broadcaster. Parish admitted that while the club does not want to lose Guehi, every player has a price: “In football, nothing is set in stone. If a bid reflects the player’s value and the ambitions of the club, we have to consider it. We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again if it’s the right decision for Crystal Palace.”
