Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has never shied away from conversations about his deep ties to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The 27-year-old forward, fresh off another dominant season with the Celtics, was recently asked about the possibility of one day suiting up for the Atlanta Hawks. While Brown didn’t go as far as saying he’s eager to leave Boston, his comments were telling and sparked plenty of discussion among fans and analysts alike.
Brown acknowledged that playing for his hometown team is something he has thought about at various points in his career. Growing up in Marietta, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, he spent countless hours watching Hawks games and dreaming about one day reaching the NBA. “Atlanta will always be home for me,” Brown reportedly said. “It’s where my journey started, and no matter where I go, that city will always have a special place in my heart. Playing there would be a full-circle moment.”
At the same time, Brown made sure to emphasize his current commitment to Boston, where he has spent his entire career since being drafted third overall in 2016. He’s become an All-Star, an All-NBA performer, and, alongside Jayson Tatum, the face of the Celtics’ championship aspirations. “Right now, my focus is on winning here in Boston,” he added. “We have something special we’re building, and I want to see that through. But you never close the door on the future.”
Those words were enough to stir up speculation about a possible return to Atlanta down the line. The Hawks have long been linked to Brown in trade rumors, given both his contract size and his Atlanta roots. Some league insiders believe that if Boston ever looks to retool or if Brown feels the need for a new challenge, the Hawks could emerge as a natural landing spot. Pairing Brown with Trae Young would instantly boost Atlanta’s profile and give the team a much-needed star with strong local connections.
For now, though, Brown’s message to Celtics fans is clear: his loyalty remains with Boston. He has been instrumental in their recent playoff runs, including multiple trips to the Eastern Conference Finals, and he’s hungry to finally capture an NBA title in green and white. Still, his acknowledgment of the allure of his hometown team leaves the door cracked open for a storyline that could dominate future offseasons.
Whether or not Brown ever dons a Hawks uniform, his bond with Atlanta is undeniable, and it adds another layer of intrigue to his already fascinating career trajectory.
