BREAKING: West Ham Submit Bid for Monaco Midfielder Soungoutou Magassa
West Ham United have made a significant move in the transfer market by submitting a formal bid for AS Monaco’s highly-rated midfielder Soungoutou Magassa. According to reports, the Hammers view the 21-year-old French talent as the ideal replacement for Édson Álvarez, who is edging closer to an exit from the London Stadium this summer.
Magassa, a versatile defensive midfielder capable of operating as a centre-back, has impressed with his composure on the ball, physicality, and tactical intelligence. Standing at 6’2”, he provides both defensive solidity and ball progression—qualities that West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is keen to integrate into his system. The young midfielder made 30 appearances for Monaco last season across all competitions, playing a key role in their strong Ligue 1 campaign and European qualification push.
West Ham’s bid is believed to be worth around £19 million, though Monaco are expected to hold out for a slightly higher fee given Magassa’s age, potential, and contract situation. Negotiations are ongoing, and while the French club are not under immediate pressure to sell, they could consider the offer if it includes performance-related add-ons or a sell-on clause.
The Hammers are preparing for life without Álvarez, who has been heavily linked with a move away after just one season
