The Los Angeles Angels placed rookie second baseman Christian Moore on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left thumb sprain.
In a corresponding move, the club selected the contract of shortstop Chad Stevens from Triple-A Salt Lake. Stevens made his MLB debut later that day against the Atlanta Braves, starting at second base and hitting ninth in the lineup.
Moore, 22, suffered the injury while diving for a ground ball off the bat of Ozzie Albies in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s 8-3 loss. He was replaced by Kevin Newman.
“Anytime you see someone like (Moore) go down, you fear the worst,” said interim manager Ray Montgomery. He noted that a two-week timeline would be “the best-case scenario.”
Moore, the Angels’ eighth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, made his major league debut on June 13. In 18 games, he’s batting .189 with three homers and eight RBIs.
Stevens, 26, was called up after an impressive stretch in Triple-A, where he hit .307 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs in 72 games for Salt Lake.
Separately, the Angels released veteran reliever Hector Neris. The 36-year-old right-hander posted a 5.14 ERA over 21 outings for Los Angeles this season. He also made a brief appearance for Atlanta, surrendering five earned runs in one inning. Altogether, Neris compiled a 7.80 ERA in 15 total innings during the 2025 campaign.
