New York Mets right-hander took a key step toward rejoining the team’s rotation, pitching into the fourth inning during a Double-A rehab outing on Saturday.
Sidelined since June 12 with a right hamstring strain suffered while covering first base, Senga struck out four and walked two over 3 2/3 innings for Binghamton. He threw 68 pitches, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits against Hartford.
The Mets struggled immediately after his injury, dropping 14 of their next 17 games. However, they’ve since bounced back, riding a four-game winning streak that includes a pair of victories over the Yankees.
Senga, a 2023 All-Star, has been stellar this season, posting a 7-3 record with a 1.47 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 73 2/3 innings. With continued progress, he could return to the major league roster just ahead of the All-Star break.
