DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers are continuing to invest in their youth movement, officially promoting three of their top prospects to Double-A Erie in a significant development for the club’s farm system.
The talented trio — shortstop Kevin McGonigle, right-hander Jackson Jobe, and outfielder Max Clark — will join the Erie SeaWolves this week, marking a pivotal step in each player’s path toward the major leagues.
Kevin McGonigle, the Tigers’ 2023 first-round pick (37th overall), has been a consistent force at the plate in High-A West Michigan, posting a .312 average with a .420 on-base percentage and showcasing excellent plate discipline. Widely regarded as one of the top pure hitters in the organization, McGonigle’s mature approach and solid defense have accelerated his rise through the system.
Jackson Jobe, the Tigers’ top pitching prospect and the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has dazzled scouts with his electric stuff since returning from an early-season injury. The 21-year-old right-hander boasts a mid-90s fastball with elite spin and a devastating slider, and he’s posted a 2.08 ERA with 52 strikeouts across 39 innings in High-A. His promotion puts him on the cusp of Triple-A, and potentially a 2025 MLB debut.
Max Clark, Detroit’s 2023 first-round selection (3rd overall), continues to live up to the hype. The speedy center fielder has posted a .289 batting average with a .378 OBP and 26 stolen bases this season. His defense and energy have turned heads, and his move to Double-A signals the Tigers’ belief in his fast-track development.
“We’re thrilled with the progress these guys have made,” said Tigers VP of Player Development Ryan Garko. “Each of them has earned this opportunity. Erie is a strong test, and we’re excited to see how they respond.”
The SeaWolves, already in playoff contention in the Eastern League, will get an instant boost from the additions, and Tigers fans will now have even more reason to keep an eye on Erie as the organization’s future continues to take shape.
With the big-league club battling in a competitive AL Central, the promotions underscore Detroit’s long-term vision: a homegrown core leading a return to contention.
