DETROIT โ July 7, 2025 โ In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their bullpen depth, the Detroit Tigers announced Monday that theyโve made a change to their 40-man roster, swapping left-handed relievers in a calculated midseason shuffle that could pay dividends down the stretch.
The club has selected the contract of 25-year-old southpaw Adam Wolf from Triple-A Toledo, while designating veteran left-hander Tyler Holton for assignment. The transaction signals a vote of confidence in Wolfโs progress and a chance for a fresh arm to make an impact as the Tigers eye a playoff push.
Wolf, a fifth-round pick in 2018 out of the University of Louisville, has been quietly dominant for the Mud Hens this season. In 33 relief appearances, heโs compiled a 2.34 ERA with 48 strikeouts over 42.1 innings, showing improved command and an uptick in velocity that caught the front officeโs attention.
โAdamโs been one of our most consistent performers in Toledo,โ Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. โHeโs earned this opportunity, and weโre excited to see how he competes at the major league level.โ
Holton, 28, was a key bullpen piece in 2023 but has struggled with command and consistency in 2025. He posted a 5.96 ERA in 30.1 innings this season, and with lefty Dietrich Enns and now Wolf stepping up, Detroit had little room for error in a crowded bullpen.
While Holton could remain in the organization if he clears waivers, the move reflects the front officeโs commitment to rewarding performance and maintaining flexibility on the roster.

With the Tigers sitting atop the AL Central and continuing to jockey for postseason positioning, the addition of a fresh, in-form lefty like Wolf could be a timely spark.
โThis is an exciting time for our team,โ Hinch added. โWeโre making moves with winning in mind.โ
Wolf is expected to be available out of the bullpen as early as Tuesday nightโs game at Comerica Park.
